My long time dream was realized in November 2011 when I happen to visit my favorite camera store and there sitting in the “consignment” display case was this Nikon D3 Professional camera. It only had 4,000 actuations, which is unheard of. I had been looking at D3s on e-bay for sometime now and they were all running in the 150K – 300K range so this was an amazing find. I was able to negotiate a reasonable price with the previous owner so it was a great day for me.
I generally have the Nikon 28- 300 f3.5-5.6 set up on the D3. I like the versatility I get. I can shoot wide angle and with the twist of the ring have a good reach at 300 mm.
My second body (yes I do realize that I have no need for a second camera) is a Nikon D700. It like the D3 is a full frame professional camera. I purchased it new in 2009 and it is a wonderful camera.
Normally I have the Nikon 24 – 70 mm f2.8 attached, which gives me razor-sharp wide-angle images. I have the battery grip attached as well and can get about 7 – 9 fps so it is a good wildlife camera as well.
This is my favorite lens. The Nikon 70 – 200 mm VR II f2.8 telephoto lens. It is the sharpest lens I have ever shot with. Great for portraits and detail work. I don’t use it as much as I should because I rely on the 28 – 300 mm a lot.
